NDSU spring commencement ceremonies scheduled for May 17

NDSU is set to hold commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 17 at the Fargodome. Two ceremonies are scheduled.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will be for graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences; College of Engineering; and Interdisciplinary Studies. The 2 p.m. ceremony is for graduates in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources; College of Business; and College of Health and Human Sciences.

U.S. Navy Admiral Stuart Munsch will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters at the 10 a.m. ceremony. Admiral Munsch will speak at both ceremonies.

According to Jackie Schluchter, associate registrar, 1,415 candidates are expected to participate in the ceremonies, as of May 7. A total of 2,058 students are eligible.

“We are excited for the 2025 spring graduating class,” Schluchter said. “Commencement begins a new, vibrant chapter for our graduates, and we are proud of their accomplishments.”

A class representative has been selected to speak during each ceremony.

Patrick Kirkpatrick, who is receiving his Bachelor of Science in environmental engineering, will address the 10 a.m. ceremony. A resident of West Allis, Wisconsin, Kirkpatrick is the son of Gina and PJ Kirkpatrick.

Halli Heimbuch is receiving her master’s degree in exercise and nutrition science and will speak during the 2 p.m. ceremony. She is from Moorhead, Minnesota, and is the daughter of Russell and Vicki Heimbuch.

Hannah Schlough, a computer science major, was selected as the alternate speaker for the 10 a.m. ceremony and Clara Mvuta, a plant breeding and genetics major, was selected as the alternate speaker for the 2 p.m. ceremony.

MaKayla Berger, who is earning a bachelor’s degree in vocal music education, is a soloist for the 10 a.m. ceremony. She will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the first ceremony. Riley Spoden, a vocal music education major, will sing the NDSU school song, “The Yellow and the Green” later in the ceremony.

Soloist for the 2 p.m. ceremony is Hannah Ray. A vocal music major, Ray will sing the national anthem and “The Yellow and the Green” during the second ceremony.
