Our research interests lie in the field of evolutionary developmental biology. Primarily, we have been investigating the evolution of novel structures, or how an organism is able to produce a new structure from existing genetic and developmental machinery. Currently, we are investigating the evolvability of gene networks by examining the role of gene co-option in the evolution of abdominal appendages in male sepsid flies.
