Laptop Requirements & Software Information

Students entering their first year of study are required to have their own laptop computer that meets or exceeds required minimum specifications.

Minimum specifications

  • OS: Windows 7 Home Edition (64Bit) or bette
  • Intel ® Core i7 or faster
  • 1TB, 7200 rpm hard drive or better
  • 16 GB memory minimum
  • 2GB + VRAM graphics card
  • Wireless (dual band) and wired network suppor
  • 15-inch or larger built-in display
  • 3-year manufacturer warranty recommended

Required applications

  • Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus is free for all current students. Refer to the Information Technology Services website.
  • Additional software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud) may be required for certain courses.

Technology Resources

The NDSU Technology Learning and Media Center (TLMC) provides workshops, and helps students explore various media technologies, and answer any questions about Adobe Creative Cloud and any of the Adobe Creative Cloud software applications, i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro DC.
