Batista awarded travel scholarship and first place in poster competition
North Dakota State University M.S. candidate Lucas Alexandre Batista received first place in the poster competition at the 2022 University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) Plant Science Symposium: Innovations Connecting Complex Biosystems. He was also awarded a travel scholarship to attend the symposium.
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign graduate students in multiple plant science disciplines hosted the 2022 UIUC Plant Science Symposium: Innovations Connecting Complex Biosystems on September 16 at the Funk Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Library on the campus. The 2022 UIUC Plant Science Symposium: Innovations Connecting Complex Biosystems was held on September 16 at the Funk Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Library part of the The Corteva Symposia Series. The series is run entirely by students at universities across the globe.
The day-long symposium featured six university, government and industry researchers as guest speakers, a poster breakout session, and graduate student talks.
Batista presented a poster titled “Speed breeding: From single seed descent to a small plot yield trial” which is co-authored by Didier A. Murillo Florez and his M.S. degree advisor Dr. Andrew Green. Lucas is also the president of the Plant Sciences Graduate Student Association. He received his undergraduate degree from the Universidade Federal de Lavras -UFLA, in Brazil.
