Tanya RedRoad of Little Shell Band of Chippewa and descendent of Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa is a mother of three and an Auntie mom to her nephew. Tanya also has two grandsons, Ethan and Ezra. Tanya owns a small catering business, Tee's Taco's. Tanya is serving as the USDA Project Coordinator at the American Indian Public Health Resource Center. She is the primary contact for IIFSPH and the IIFSPH summer program. Her role is to incorporate and share Indigenous food sovereignty teachings, opportunities, and existing resources through existing and future partnerships to strengthen IISFPH and the summer program curriculum. Her areas of focus are recruitment, curriculum development, program activities, and leading the development, implementation, and coordination of the project.
Tanya also works as the Director of Toxic Taters Coalition, Community Coach with NDSU Extension, and a Lifestyle Coach, at DTTAC through the CDC. She has done advocacy and activism in many sectors that face systemic challenges for Indigenous communities. Those areas include Domestic and Sexual Violence, Substance Use Challenges, Mental Health Concerns, Public Health initiatives around wellness for women including Native Women Speaking an HIV initiative, Youth programming in community efforts including the Founder of FM Healthy Native Kids, ICWA training (Indian Child Welfare Act), Positive Indian Parenting with NICWA (National Indian Child Welfare Act), Health Equity Initiatives, Land defending and water protection efforts. Tanya also does grassroots and professional community work with the Indigenous population to identify gaps. To be a voice to ensure the Indigenous perspective is heard. Tanya enjoys going to powwows, cultural ceremonies, and cooking for the community. Tanya appreciates learning about other cultures while sharing hers.
