Change the Conversation: Motivational Interviewing and Vaccine Hesitancy

EVENT DESCRIPTION
This talk will deepen participants' psychological understanding of the factors contributing to vaccine hesitancy, introduce practical ways to integrate core Motivational Interviewing (MI) concepts, and engage in practice opportunities to apply MI skills in patient encounters.
Jon Ulven, Ph.D., L.P, is a licensed psychologist and has worked for Sanford Health for 20 years. Dr. Ulven completed his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Kansas. He is the department chairperson of adult psychology in the Fargo-Moorhead area, as well as the co-training director of Sanford's predoctoral psychology internship. He has been practicing and teaching motivational interviewing for 18 years. He was involved in a published research study involving pediatricians, MI, and vaccine hesitancy in 2019, as well as an invited speaker to the North Dakota Immunization Conference in 2022.
