textiles and clothing, honorary doctorate '90, first worked at Rike-Kumler Co., a department store in Dayton, Ohio, from 1950 to 1966 before taking a year off to travel the world. She then worked for Bullock's Department Stores in Los Angeles, where she was the first woman to manage a Bullock's store and later became the first woman vice president at Bullock's. She was named president of Harzfeld's, a retailer based in Kansas City, Missouri, before joining Dayton-Hudson Co. in Minneapolis as senior vice president. She was a life trustee of NDSU Development Foundation. She lived in Clarkston, Washington.
