agricultural economics, was a lifetime member of the North Dakota Farmers Union and served as the organization's vice president from 1972-84. He served on the board of the Farmers Union Elevator Cooperative of Buxton, North Dakota, from 1962-2001, and the Farmers Union Central Exchange (Cenex) board from 1986-99. He retired from farming in 1999. He lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
