horticulture, earned his doctorate in floriculture at the University of Minnesota and went on to work for plant companies in California and Ohio. He developed New Guinea Impatient, poinsettias and kalanchoes, and earned several patents for his work. He was known as "Dr. Point" and the developer of the Polar Bear poinsettia. He lived in Lompoc, California.
