general agriculture, was ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church in 1961, and held church and administrative positions at churches throughout the Dakotas Conference. He retired from the ministry in 2002 after a 43-year career. He was elected to the North Dakota State Senate in 2006. He lived in Fargo.
