secondary education, was principal of Sheyenne High School in West Fargo. Earlier in his career, he was a teacher at Fargo Shanley High School, West Fargo High School and Moorhead High School. He also coached track and cross country. He was named the North Dakota High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1989. He lived in Fargo.
