chemistry, taught physics at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore for a year before accepting a research position at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York, where he worked for 45 years. He served on the board of education for the BNL Preschool and was a member of the Shoreham Wading River School Board for 25 years. He lived in Chicago.
