was governor of North Dakota from 1984 to 1992. Earlier in his career, he was a state senator, member of the Board of Higher Education, chair of the Sugar Beet Growers Association and active in the creation of the Northern Crops Institute. After leaving the governor’s office, he was vice president of government affairs for American Crystal Sugar Co. He retired in 1995. He lived in Fargo.
