animal science, honorary doctorate ’08, was a career U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard officer, rising to the rank of general and being named Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander in Chief, United States Air Forces in Europe. During his military service, he flew more than 5,000 hours in fighter aircraft such as the F-80, F-86, F-94, F-101, F-102 and F-4.He retired from the Air National Guard in 1987 after a 39-year career. He was a life trustee for the NDSU Foundation. He lived in Fargo.
