chemistry, was a 25-year Air Force veteran, retiring in 1976 as a colonel. He was assigned to the Weapons Effects Test Group, Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Air Force Special Weapons Lab, New Mexico; and the Pentagon’s high-energy laser program. For a time, he was commander of the Special Weapons Lab that worked on the “Star Wars” program. He also taught at the Air War College, Montgomery, Alabama. After retirement from the military, he worked as a private contractor and one of his projects was re-engineering the mirrors for the Hubble Space Telescope. He lived in Chandler, Arizona.
