English, spent his entire career with the U.S. government in Washington, D.C. He was an architectural historian with the Office of Historic Preservation, and later was a leasing officer with the Public Building Service. He also was a semi-professional musician, playing piano, organ, harpsichord, viola, bassoon and recorder. He lived in Arlington, Virginia.
