English, was a pastor, serving churches in Louisiana, Missouri, Washington, British Columbia and Mississippi. He relocated to Fargo and turned to teaching full time. He helped establish NDSU’s Center for Writers, which he directed until his retirement in 1999. He participated in the Linguistics Circle of Manitoba and North Dakota. He lived in Fargo.
