electrical and electronic engineering, worked in project management at Control Data, Arden Hills, Minnesota, from 1968 until 1978. He then joined Cray Research, eventually rising to director of engineering on the Red Storm Project for the Sandia National Laboratory. He ended his engineering career with the National Security Agency in Maryland. He was an Army veteran who lived in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
