He also was an author and former Democratic-NPL party chair. He received the State Bar Association’s Outstanding Volunteer award, the Advocacy Excellence Award from Legal Assistance of North Dakota and the Human Rights Award from the Fargo Human Relations Commission. He lived in Fargo.
