Information for Graduate Students
To Participate in Commencement
Graduate students may participate in the commencement ceremony the semester that they pass the final defense or the semester in which they complete all of their degree requirements. Summer graduates are eligible to participate in the spring ceremony prior. If the degree has already posted, students are no longer eligible to participate in a future commencement ceremony.
It is important to complete the Intent to Graduate Survey by the posted deadline to initiate your Graduation Audit and receive commencement information. Registration and Records sends commencement ceremony information to the student's NDSU email address, at which time the student will need to RSVP for the ceremony if they intend to participate. Ceremony questions should be directed to Registration and Records.
Cap and Gowns
- Graduate students must rent or purchase the appropriate cap and NDSU-specific green gown from the NDSU Bookstore.
Additional information
- Commencement is a ceremony only. It does not signify that you have completed all of your degree requirements. Please go to www.ndsu.edu/gradschool/graduating_students/ for more information.
- You may only participate once in commencement for a given degree. Graduate students are not eligible for academic honors based on GPA.
- For question regarding graduation requirements, contact the College of Graduate and Interdisciplinary Studies.
