BS in Data Science

The Departments of Computer Science, Statistics, and the College of Business jointly offer the Bachelor of Science in Data Science degree. Students will extract insights from massive datasets through curriculum enriched with statistical and computational techniques as well as Business analytics. The curriculum features in-depth study of statistical analysis, machine learning, data visualization, big data technologies, and business intelligence.

Data Science focuses on uncovering insights and valuable information from large datasets by leveraging methods from statistics, computer science, and domain-specific expertise, such as business intelligence. By collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data, data scientists identify patterns, trends, and relationships that can drive decision-making and predict outcomes. They use machine learning algorithms and statistical models to analyze complex datasets, aiming to transform raw data into actionable insights that benefit areas like business strategy, scientific research, healthcare, and technological development. Through data science, organizations can make informed, data-driven decisions to solve real-world problems and enhance operational efficiency.

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science degree is ideal for students interested in the fast-evolving fields of data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. With three focused areas to choose from—artificial intelligence, statistical analytics, and business analytics—students gain a comprehensive skill set tailored to their career goals. Graduates are equipped for roles that demand expertise in statistical analysis, programming, and data-driven problem-solving across diverse industries, including finance, healthcare, technology, and government.
