Emergency Class Absence Notifications
Students may encounter difficult life events or emergencies which make it impossible for them to attend class. When students find themselves unable to coordinate immediate communication with their instructors, the Dean of Students Office will notify faculty members and advisors of the student’s class absence.
Examples of such emergencies include:
- Death of immediate family member, roommate, or close friend
- Hospitalization of the student
- Life threatening/emergency hospitalization of an immediate family member
- Immediate military activates
- Other serious life event
The student, or their proxy, should notify the Dean of Students Office by calling (701) 231-7701. The office will copy the student on the correspondence sent to instructors and advisors.
When the situation allows, the student should contact their instructors to let them know an anticipated date they will return to class. Decisions concerning submission of late assignments, make up of missed exams, or allowing extra time for missed work are at the discretion of the faculty member in accordance with Policy 333.
