Gebler, Friedrich August von (b. 1782; d. 1850) - According to Horn et al. (1990) some of his collection may be in the Paris Museum (MNHN) and some may be in St. Petersburg (ZMAS). Citations: Mannerheim (1850), Westwood (1851), and Marseul (1883).

Geoffroy, EtiPnne Louis (b. 1727; d. 1810) - Some of his collection may be in the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France (MNHN), and some in the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle d'Autun, Autun, France (MHNA). Citations: Duméril (1823), Eiselt (1836), Ratzeburg (1847), Rose (1850), Anonymous (1858), and Lizer y Trelles (1947)

Germar, Ernst Friedrich (b. Nov. 3, 1786; d. July 8, 1853) - Also worked extensively in the Coleoptera. Most of his collection has been deposited in the Department of Zoology, Ivan Franko National University, Lviv (Lemberg), Ukraine (ZMUL), but some specimens may reside in Martin Luther Universität, Halle, Germany (MLUH) (Germar spent about 7 years at this collection). The types of some of the pentatomid species described in Silberman’s Rev. Ent., 1838, are in the BMNH (Drege Collection?); also Linnavuori (1970) indicated that he found one of Germar’s pentatomid types in NHMW. There is usually no indication of how many specimens Germar had when he made his descriptions. All should be considered STS. Gerstäcker, Carl Eduard Adolph (b. 1828; d. July 20, 1895) - Collection should now reside in the Ernst Moritz Arndt Universität, Greifswald, Germany (EMAU). For most of the pentatomid new species, Gerstaecker had single specimens, which he indicated, so they can be regarded as HTS; in one case he had more than one specimen (both sexes); he did not designate a HT in this case, so they should be considered STS. Ghauri, M. S. K. - Modern day worker primarily on the Pentatomidae, but some papers on other groups (Cimicomorpha).

Gibson, Arthur (b. Dec. 23, 1875, Toronto, Canada; d. Apr. 18, 1959, Brockville, Canada) - Collection conserved in the Canadian National Collection, Ottawa (CNCI). Citations: Twinn (1956) and Mallis (1971).

Gillette, Clarence Preston (b. Apr. 7, 1859, Maple Corners, Michigan; d. Jan. 4, 1941, Fort Collins, Colorado) - Collection conserved in the Colorado State Univ. Mus. Citations: Howard (1930), Osborn (1937, 1946), Anonymous (1941), List (1941a, b), Sachtleben (1941), Usinger (1941), and Mallis (1971).

Gistel, Johannes von Nepomuk Franz Xaver (b. 1803; d. 1873) - H&K: some in Munich. Citations: Mannerheim (1838), Gistel (1846), Strand (1919), and Horn (1924).

Gmelin, Johann Friedrich (b. Aug. 8, 1748, Tübingen, Germany; d. Nov. 1, 1804, Göttingen, Germany) - Professor of Chemistry in Göttingen. Notable work: He produced the final (13th) edition of Linnaeus’ Systema naturae (1788-1793). Hopkinson (1907) and Apstein (1916) present information on the publication dates of Gmelin’s 13th edition of Systema Naturae. Citations: Swainson (1840), Rose (1850), and Musgrave (1932).

Goeze, Johann August Ephraim (b. 1731; d. 1793) - Dolling et al. (1999) provided information on the Heteroptera contained in Goeze’s 1778 Entomologische Beyträge, vol. 2. Citation: Anonymous (1858).

Gredler, Vincenz Maria Pater (b. 1823; d. 1912) - Collection conserved in the Gymnasium der Franziskaner, Bozen, Italy (GFBI). Citation: Daniel (1906), Anonymous (1912), Dalla Torre (1912), Ohaus (1912), and Schröder (1912)

Guérin-Méneville, Félix Édouard (b. Oct. 12, 1799, Toulon, France; d. Jan. 26, 1874, Paris, France) - Prior to about 1835, went by the name Guérin; after 1835 went by Guérin-Méneville. Collection was deposited in Istituto di Zoologia, Universita di Napoli (ZIUN), most of which was thought to be destroyed by bombing in World Wars. But a few duplicates are in BMNH, London (see Accessions Register No. 41-6-22), and according to Carapezza et al. (1995), many are still ok in ZIUN. Also, the NHRS website lists a couple Guérin paratypes as deposited in their collection. Dupuis (1952) and Cowan (1971) contain information on the dates of publication of some of Guérin-Méneville’s papers. Citations: Fauvel (1873), Anonymous (1874a-c, 1875a, b), Chevrolat (1874), Leprieur (1874), Marseul (1885), and Papavero (1971).

Gulde, Johannes (b. 1872; d. 1929) - Collection conserved in the Forschungsinstitut und Naturmuseum Senckenberg, Frankfurt am Main, Germany (SMFD). Gulde, in his 1934 paper (Die Wanzen Mitteleuropas), recognized both varieties and aberrations. For nomenclatural purposes, I have interpreted the varieties as subspecific names, but it is my belief that he intended the aberrations to be a category lower than subspecies. As such, I have considered all taxa listed as aberrations to be synonyms of the next higher taxa. Citations: Dusmet Y Alonso (1919), and Sack (1929, 1930a, b).
