Jacobsen, Oluf (b. 1846; d. 1921) - Collection conserved in the Zoological Museum, University of Copenhagen (ZMUC).

Jaczewski, Tadeusz Antoni Franciszek (b. Feb. 1, 1899, St. Petersburg, Russia; d. Feb. 25, 1974) - Most of collection deposited in Zoological Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warszawa, Poland (ZMPA); some may be deposited in Budapest, but all or in part of this was destroyed in civil strife, 1956. Citations: Mroczkowski (1974a, b), Wróblewski (1974), Kerzhner (1975), and Lees (1975).

Jakovlev, Vasiliy Ewgrafowitsch (b. Feb. 9, 1839, Tsaritsyn [now Volgograd], Russia; d. Aug. 15, 1908, Eupatoriya, Ukraine) - Collection deposited in the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg (ZMAS). Jansson, A. (b. 1940, Ylöjärvi, Finland; d. July 16, 2002) - Received Master of Science (1965), Licenciate of Philosophy (1968), and Doctor of Philosophy (1971) all from the University of Helsinki. Also studied at the University of British Columbia. Early work focused on bioacoustics of Corixidae. Late work specialized on the systematics of the Corixidae. Collection is probably at University of Helsinki (MZHF). See Pajunen and Huldén (2002) for biography and bibliography.

Jeannel, René Gabriel (b. March 22, 1879, Paris, France; d. Feb. 20, 1965, Paris, France) - Specimens from his various expeditions are now conserved in the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris (MNHN). In his 1913 work on pentatomids, Jeannel has used an interesting methodology. At the beginning of each of his new species descriptions, he has a "Type" or "Types" category. At the end of each description, he has a list of all the specimens he had seen which often did not coincide with his type category. In all examples, Jeannel allowed only those specimens from a single locality to be listed in the Type(s) category. In some cases, this would be a single specimen even though he examined more specimens from other localities. I believe that whenever he used the category "Type" and listed only 1 specimen, it can be considered the HT, even though he may list additional specimens at the end; I have chosen not to include these additional specimens in the type series at all. When he used the category "Types" and listed multiple specimens, he did not specify any single specimen as the type; thus, these should be considered STS. Jensen-Haarup, Anders Christian (b. 1863; d. Jan. 30, 1934, Silkeborg, Denmark) - Collection deposited in Zoological Museum, University of Copenhagen (ZMUC); a few of his types may also be in the Zoologisches Museum, Universität Hamburg (ZMUH); he usually indicated their deposition in the original description. Jensen-Haarup usually indicated how many specimens he had, including what sex they were, but when he had multiple specimens, he did not usually designate one of them as the type, so they should be considered STS. Citations: Anonymous (1935), Esben-Petersen (1935, 1936), and Lindberg (1935).
