Laporte Comte de Castelnau, Francis Louis Nompar de Caumont de (b. 1810; d. Feb. 4, 1880, East Melbourne, Australia) - Prior to about 1835, went by the name Laporte; around 1835, went by M. de Castelnau; later went by Laporte de Castelnau. Heteroptera should be in the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris (MNHN). Citations: Anonymous (1880a-d, 1881), Marseul (1887), Musgrave (1932), Pereira (1935), and Papavero (1971).

Latreille, Pierre André (b. Nov. 29, 1762, Brive, Corréze, France; d. Feb. 6, 1833, Paris, France) -  Had very humble beginnings.  He attended the College Lemoine in Paris, and was ordained a priest in 1786. At this time, he studied insects at his home in Brive, and then returned to Paris in 1788. His political views warrented that he leave Paris during the French Revolution, and he was later imprisoned in Bordeaux. In 1798, he was given the task of curating the insects in the recently organized Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. In 1821, he became a member of the French Academy of Sciences. According to Horn et al. (1990), much of his collection went to P.F.M.A. Dejean whose collection in turn ended up at the Instituto Municipale de Ciencias Naturales, Barcelona, Spain (IMBS). Le Guillou, M. - Some of collection is in the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris (MNHN). Gave measurements, but did not indicate which sexes or how many specimens he had, so all should be considered STS.

Lepeletier, Amédee Louis Michel (b. 1770; d. 1845) - According to Horn et al. (1990), part of collection may be in the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris (MNHN), and part may have gone via Spinola to Zool. Univ. Mus., Turin. Citations: Swainson (1840), Serville (1846), Anonymous (1889), and Musgrave (1932).

Leston, Dennis (b. 1917, England; d. 1979, FL, USA) - Collection deposited in The Natural History Museum, London (BMNH), with limited material in American Museum of Natural History, New York (AMNH). Citation: Southwood (1982).

Lethierry, Lucien François (b. 1830, Lille, France; d. Apr. 4, 1894, Lille, France) - According to Wagner (1953), after his death, Lethierry’s collection was purchased by Noualhier who did a lot of trading of material. But the person he did the most trading with was Puton. Both Puton’s and Noualhier’s collections eventually were placed in the Paris Museum (MNHN), so most of Lethierry’s collection should also be in the MNHN, either in Puton’s or Noualhier’s collection. Citations: Anonymous (1894a-d), Puton (1894), and Kraatz (1895).

Lindberg, HDkan (b. May 24, 1898, Joroinen, Finland; d. Aug. 6, 1966, Helsinki, Finland) - Collection deposited in University Zoological Museum, Helsinki (MZHF). Hulden et al. (1996) presented a list of Miridae types described by Lindberg. Citations: Kiritshenko (1967), Lindroth (1967), and Sundby (1967).

Lindskog, Per (b. Nov. 22, 1939, Stockholm, Sweden; d. Mar. 1, 1998, Stockholm, Sweden) - Modern day worker primarily on the Saldidae. Kronestedt (1999) gives a biographical sketch as well as a bibliography. Citation: Aukema & Rieger (1999).

Linnaeus, Carl (b. May 24, 1707, Rashult, Swaland, Sweden; d. Jan. 10, 1778, Uppsala, Sweden) - HN: Linnaean Soc., London; Stockholm (in coll. DeGeer and Rolander); Uppsala (M.L.U.). PI: Some in Linnean Society, London (LSUK); some in Universitets Zoologiska Institut, Uppsala, Sweden (UZIU). H&K: "Ins. im Mus. Uppsala. – Privat-Sammlg. ex parte via J. Edw. Smith an Linn. Soc., London; parte an Kgl. Kabinett in Drotningholm." See Ossiannilsson, 1953, for Linnaean types from the DeGeer collection which are deposited in UZIU. Dolling et al. (1999) provides information on the Heteroptera contained in 10th edition of Systema Naturae.

Löw, Franz (b. 1829; d. Nov. 22, 1889, Vienna, Austria) - Primarily a worker in the Homoptera (Psyllidae, Coccidae), he also occasionally published reports on Hemiptera. Collection housed in the Naturhistorisches Museum, Wien (NHMW). Citations: Puton (1889), Anonymous (1890), Douglas (1890), Mik (1890), Rogenhofer (1890), and Wilderman (1890).

Lucas, Pierre Hippolyte (b. 1814; d. 1899) - Collection resides in the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris (MNHN). Citations: Anonymous (1899a-c), Alluaud (1899), Lesne (1901), Musgrave (1932), Lacroux (1938), and Bonnet (1945).
