Latreille, Pierre André (b. Nov. 29, 1762, Brive, Corréze, France; d. Feb. 6, 1833, Paris, France) -  Had very humble beginnings.  He attended the College Lemoine in Paris, and was ordained a priest in 1786. At this time, he studied insects at his home in Brive, and then returned to Paris in 1788. His political views warrented that he leave Paris during the French Revolution, and he was later imprisoned in Bordeaux. In 1798, he was given the task of curating the insects in the recently organized Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. In 1821, he became a member of the French Academy of Sciences. According to Horn et al. (1990), much of his collection went to P.F.M.A. Dejean whose collection in turn ended up at the Instituto Municipale de Ciencias Naturales, Barcelona, Spain (IMBS). But the person he did the most trading with was Puton. Both Puton’s and Noualhier’s collections eventually were placed in the Paris Museum (MNHN), so most of Lethierry’s collection should also be in the MNHN, either in Puton’s or Noualhier’s collection.
