Neottiglossa Kirby, 1837 Neottiglossa Kirby, 1837: 276. Aelioides Dohrn, 1860: 101. (syn. by Stål, 1872) Platysolen Fieber, 1860: 82. (new name for Aelioides Dohrn, 1860; see note under comments) Subgenus Texas Kirkaldy, 1904 Neottiglossa (Melanostoma) Stål, 1872: 18. (junior homonym of Melanostoma Schiner, 1860, Diptera) Neottiglossa (Texas) Kirkaldy, 1904: 280. (new name for Melanostoma Stål, 1872) Type Species: Neottiglossa: Pentatoma (Neottiglossa) trilineata Kirby, 1837, by monotypy. Aelioides: Cydnus inflexus Wolff, 1811 (= Cimex pusillus Gmelin, 1790), by monotypy. Melanostoma: Neottiglossa sulcifrons StDl, 1872, by subsequent designation (Kirkaldy, 1909). Tribal Placement: This genus has always been considered to be related to Aelia. Included Species: Key to New World
Species Comments: Fieber (1860) proposed Platysolen as a replacement name for Aelioides Dohrn (1860), and so must take the same type as that genus (Cydnus inflexus Wolff, 1811); Kirkaldy (1909) believed this to be a new generic name and erroneously designated Platysolen griseus Fieber, 1861 as type species. The New World species were recently revised by Rider (1989). Reference: Rider, D. A. 1989. Review of the New World species of the genus Neottiglossa Kirby (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae).
