Aglaophon Stål, 1876 Aglaophon Stål, 1876: 36, 42. Type Species: Aglaophon varius StDl, 1876, by monotypy. Tribal Placement: This genus has always been considered a member of the Halyini. Included Species: Comments: There are currently only two species described in this genus, but there is a third, as of yet undescribed species. The following are notes that I took while studying in the Australian Museum, Sydney: Aglaophon variegatus Gross - 1 specimen. This was identified as varius, but it has the tylus only just surpassing the juga, antennal segment II is subequal to segment I, and there are numerous small cells in the wing membrane (reticulate) with no larger cells. Aglaophon varius StDl - 1 specimen. This specimen has a holotype label that says Aglaophon subsimilis Musgrave. This must be a manuscript name. This specimen has the characters of varius as outlined by Gross (1976): tylus much longer than juga (it is 2-3 times longer than its own width), antennal segment II is subequal to segment I, and the wing membrane has 3 large cells and a few smaller cells. Image of Syntype. Aglaophon new species - 1 specimen. This specimen was also identified as varius. It has antennal segment II much longer than I, nearly twice as long. There are 3 larger cells in the wing membrane with several smaller cells. The tylus only just surpasses the apex of the juga. Gross (1976) was aware of this species and indicated that there are 2 specimens in the CASC labeled as Aglaophon new species. Other Links:
