Distribution: China (Anhui, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Jilin, Liaoning, Neu Monggol, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan, Xizang, Yunnan, Zhejiang), Korea, Japan, Taiwan, United States (NJ, OR, PA). Type Information: Pentatoma halys Stål, 1855: ST(S), China, NHRS. Poecilometis mistus Uhler, 1860: STS, ♀, Japan, Simoda, & China, Hong Kong, USNM. Dalpada brevis Walker, 1867: HT, Hong Kong, BMNH. Dalpada remota Walker, 1867: STS (4), Hong Kong, BMNH. Comments: There has been considerable confusion surrounding the systematics of this species. First, Distant (1880, 1893, 1899) considered this taxon to be a junior synonym of Halyomorpha picus (Fabricius). Later, it was determined that this species was different from H. picus, but various authors used either H. brevis (Walker) or H. remota (Walker) as the proper name. Josifov & Kerzher (1978) determined that there was only one species of Halyomorpha occurring in Japan, Korea, and eastern China, and that H. halys (Stål) actually had priority. All citations pertaining to Halyomorpha species from these localities should be referred to H. halys (Stål). Other Links:
