Acledra carinata Breddin 1914

Acledra carinata Breddin, 1914: 56-57.

Distribution: Chile.

Type Information: LT & (Schröder, 1964, as type), Chile, Prov. Malleco, Victoria, SMFD.

Translation of Breddin's 1914 original description

Female. Outwardly similar to A. albocostata in body shape and coloring, but besides the deviating form of the female anal-genital apparatus, it can be distinguished by the following signs: The anterolateral edge of the pronotum is even somewhat stronger, foliately widened, lightly rounded (straight or very slightly indented in front of the rounded shoulders in A. albocostata); the neck edge clearly extends as a pointed tooth; the scutellum has a clear, impunctate middle keel running the length, and two small smooth callous flecks on each side at the base.  Membrane rather dark smoke-gray.

Apex of head rather wide, the outermost points of the juga bowed slightly inward, yet the clypeus, which is almost equal breadth and runs the full length, is barely narrowed at the point; second antennal segment very clearly longer than the third.  Pronotum lacking diagonal bulge, yellowish (in living specimens probably green) like the head.  The scutellum slightly muddy; keel, basal callouses, one on the basal fourth recognizable, calloused raised edge and apex whitish.  Clavus and corium washed-out brownish pink; the vein of the clavus, the brachial and cubital veins of the corium as well as the pitch brown punctured costal field are bright yellow; a stripe the length of the "remula" is pitch black.

Female. Eight basite with wide and moderately rounded end-edge, the inner edge straight, parallel toward base, slightly open, the outermost points slightly overlapping like pincers.  The 9th parasternite in its end half not gradually pointed but rather almost the same width, the point narrowly rounded.

Length with membrane 11.67 mm.  Shoulder width 6.67 mm.

Chili (Victoria, Prov. Malleco) - Senchenbergisches Museum Frankfurt.

From the Argentinian A. gregalis Berg, with whom it has the keeling of the scutellum in common, it can be specifically differentiated with certainty because of the larger form, the wider head (on the end much wider than in A. kinbergi), etc.

Observation: In the female of A. albocostata, the end-edge of the 8th basite is clearly swung in a wave form [sinuous], the inner half bowed, the outer half indented; the inner edges grasps over each other in their basal half in flat lobes; the 9th parasternites come to a point toward the end and extend as pointy-cornered teeth toward the rear.
