Teaching Overview

Our primary mission is to educate the next generation of engineers and prepare them for the challenges they will face in designing civil and environmental infrastructure for society. Now is an exciting time in engineering education. Public awareness is growing for the needs of solutions to broad societal problems: such as maintaining infrastructure, preparing for the possible consequences of climatic variability, and managing the natural resources upon which society depends. Engineering students are becoming equipped with new technologies and resources, and with recognition that teamwork is prerequisite to resolving the broad challenges of society. The next generation of engineers must be technically competent. And, they must become equipped to wrestle with seemingly intractable problems, where various alternatives are evaluated to make the best possible design decisions.
