Search Committee Training
Searching for Excellence was an initiative for faculty recruitment that was part of the ADVANCE FORWARD insitutional tranformation project. As part of that project, a full-time position in the Provost’s Office was created to assist with the development of training for search committee members, assist search committees in targeted recruiting efforts, and work with search committee members to help them identify and use effective search practices.
The training includes information on procedural aspects of the search process, as well as research-based information addressing the ways that bias can influence the recruitment and screening of applicants in a search and strategies for overcoming bias.
Our search committee training is available to anyone, but is required of anyone who plans to be a chair of an academic search (this includes faculty, lecturers and postdocs).
