NIH Enforcement of Unilateral Closeout Reporting

The National Institute of Health has provided notice to recipient organizations that it is strengthening enforcement of longstanding closeout requirements as outlined in the NIHG Grants Policy Statement (NIH GPS) Section 8.6.

Failure to comply may result in NIH initiating unilateral closeouts and report the recipient organizations failure to comply with the terms and conditions of award in SAM.gov (System for Award Management). Recurring failure to comply may cause NIH to take additional actions that may include corrective action, withholding further awards, suspension and termination.

The SAM.gov notice would be information that is available to all potential sponsors reviewing NDSU as they evaluate our compliance and risk assessment in managing sponsored projects, whether those projects are funded by NIH or any other entity.

For additional information, please see NIH’s notice here: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-24-055.html

The Principal Investigator (PI) is responsible for submitting any required narrative reports. However, Grant & Contract Accounting (GCA) supports post-award reporting requirements and can help with the award close-out process. If you have any questions about timely close-out, please contact your assigned GCA Officer.
