Let's Move In Homeschool

Hello Homeschool Families!

Registration is now available for our in-person Fall 2024  NDSU Let’s Move in Homeschool Physical Education and Health Education Program.

Our two options for programming include:

Option 1: In-person Physical Education AND Health Education for children ages 4-12 years

Option 2: In-person Physical Education ONLY for children ages 4-12 years

General Program Description

Welcome to the 13th year of NDSU’s Let’s Move in Homeschool program! The goal of this program is to provide children with enjoyable health and physical education lessons within emotionally and physically safe environments. This outreach service is facilitated by NDSU’s Health and Physical Education program faculty and pre-service teachers. Under faculty supervision, pre-service teachers design developmentally appropriate lessons for homeschooled children and deliver these on our campus.

Program Fees

Our program fees are $15/child with a total $30/family maximum for all programming regardless of option selected.

Fall 2024 Parking Note: Due to construction projects on our campus the Visitor’s Parking Lot located west of Bentson Bunker Field House as reduced parking. The Memorial Union Visitor’s Parking Lot and side streets may need to be used.

Physical Education Lessons

Justin Pieterick oversees the physical education programming. Our physical education lessons use best-practices in physical activity to help students as they develop their physical literacy through all three domains of learning (physical, cognitive, and affective). Physical education lessons are based upon the NEW 2024 North Dakota Physical Education Standards:

  • Motor Skill Development (MSD) - The learner will utilize movement skills to engage at a participant level of proficiency in a variety of physical activities.
  • Knowledge to Move (KM) The learner will apply knowledge and strategies to movement and fitness concepts.
  • Personal and Social Skills (PSS) The learner will demonstrate responsible personal and social skills with consideration for self and others.
  • Motivated to Move (MM) The learner will pursue personal and meaningful physical activity.

Health Education Lessons

Justin Pieterick also oversees the health education programming. Our health education lessons use a skills-based approach to help students become health-literate individuals. These lessons are based upon the National Health Education standards:

  • Standard 1: Use functional health information to support health and well-being of self and others.
  • Standard 2: Analyze influences that affect health and well-being of self and others.
  • Standard 3: Access valid and reliable resources to support health and well-being of self and others.
  • Standard 4: Use interpersonal communication skills to support health and well-being of self and others.
  • Standard 5: Use a decision-making process to support health and well-being of self and others.
  • Standard 6: Use a goal-setting process to support health and well-being of self and others.
  • Standard 7: Demonstrate practices and behaviors to support health and well-being of self and others.
  • Standard 8: Advocate to promote health and well-being of self and others.

Class Delivery

All classes will begin October 1st and continue every Tuesday through December 3rd (a total of ten weeks).

In-person Classes: Classes will run on-campus at NDSU in the Bentson Bunker Field House (BBFH) on Tuesdays 11:00 a.m.-11:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. If your child(ren) participates in both types of lessons, they will be with us from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. as they will have a lesson in both Physical Education and Health Education back-to-back (That’s right parents – you can go run some errands if you’d like!). When registering, you will need to indicate whether your child(ren) will attend both the Physical Education AND Health Education Programs or ONLY the Physical Education Program.

**Your child’s class time(s) and group will be determined after registration closes, as we need to make groups of similar ages so we can plan developmentally appropriate lessons. Our program can accommodate approximately 80 children/semester**
