Adults
- Pale stripe from eye to end of pronotum.
- Hind tibia usually blue, rarely glaucus
or pink.
- Male cercus spatulate, as broad at
base as apex.
- Subanal plate triangular with a
rounded tubecle at apex.
- Ovipositor with a dorsal tooth.
- Cannot be separated in the field with
certainty from Melanoplus foedus.
- Aedeagus without protruding
right angled flange.
- A species of disturbed ground,
crop and rangeland.
Nymphs
- Grass green or brown.
- Body surface with black flecks.
- Cannot be reliably separated from M.
foedus in the field.
