This year the NDSU Nursing Department has two students who have been selected to the McNair Scholars Program. These students are Evelyne Niyonzima and Sylvie Munezero.
McNair Scholars are trained in the field of research studies. They are educated to conduct a research study at the graduate level. The main goal of the McNair program is to prepare students for graduate schools, specifically PhD programs. McNair students are mentored by PhD professors in their respective departments. Each year in April McNair scholars display a poster presentation of their research during the TRIO Day Program. They also do a power point presentation of their research at the end of April. McNair students believe that after two years of participation in the McNair program they are able to conduct a research study on a graduate student level. They also believe that through this program they learn what they could not learn in a regular classroom.
Evelyne, whose mentor is Dr. Norma Kiser-Larson, is working on a research project related to the satisfaction of new Americans and refugees with health services.
Sylvie, whose mentor is Dr. Donna Grandbois, is working on Noncompliance in management of Diabetes of Burundians living in the Fargo/Moorhead area.
