Nicole Hatzenbuhler, recipient of NDSU Peltier Innovation in Teaching Award
At a Celebration of Excellence event held on May 11, Nicole Hatzenbuhler, NDSU School of Nursing at Sanford Health, received the Peltier Innovation in Teaching Award from North Dakota State University.
Hatzenbuhler, assistant professor of practice, provides hands-on experiences for students in her classes, including service learning opportunities where students apply skills in a variety of community settings. Students in her classes have provided health education at outreach events in local elementary and high schools and other settings.
The Peltier Award for Teaching Innovation was established with the NDSU Development Foundation by Joseph and Norma Peltier to recognize outstanding innovation in teaching. Recipients selected for the award are outstanding educators who frequently use innovative teaching techniques to enhance the educational experience of students.
“Nicole provides unique learning experiences for her students,” said Charys Kunkel, director of NDSU Nursing at Sanford Health in Bismarck. “She uses innovative methods that engage them, while instilling critical thinking skills that help students apply what they learn in many different settings. This award recognizes the dedication and exemplary skills that Nicole brings to educating and inspiring future nurses.”
Hatzenbuhler teaches family nursing and health assessment to students at NDSU Nursing at Sanford Health in Bismarck. Her research interests include teaching and learning strategies, pediatric nursing and simulation in nursing education. She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.
