Kayla Hauer, MPH
Health Coach
RedBrick Health
Minneapolis, MN
What is your background?
I am from Sartell, MN and currently live in Minneapolis, MN. I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology and human development & family science from NDSU. Something interesting about me: I am getting married to my High School Sweetheart in June 2016.
What did you specialize in at NDSU?
Health Promotion
How did the NDSU MPH prepare you for the workforce?
The NDSU MPH program prepared me in greater ways than I anticipated for the workforce. First, after graduation, I realized my capacity for managing stress, time management, and learning quickly and effectively. These skills have all carried over to my career, and I feel that this has given me a big advantage for various on-the-job tasks. The program also taught me to look at both sides of an argument, and it helped me understand how greatly population health is effected by a multitude of factors—most of which the general population does not understand. The health promotion track did a great job preparing me for my career. The theories, strategies, and general knowledge I gained have already been used greatly since my graduation just 7 months ago.
What is your current position or academic pursuit?
I am a Health Coach at RedBrick Health in Minneapolis, MN. In this position, I work with individuals, coaching them in stress management, healthy eating, and how to improve their various biometrics (Cholesterol, blood pressure, etc.). My participants get connected to me through their or their spouse’s employee benefit program. I love the impact that I have on my participants. It is incredible how behavior change strategies work. It is even more incredible being on the front line seeing people’s success.
