History of the Carrot

Both the domesticated and wild types of carrots belong to the species Daucus carota, but the domesticated carrot also has a cultivar that is sativus. The wild and domestic carrots are not the same species because they both coexist today with the wild one not being edible. The carrot originated in Western Europe and into Asia, their seeds were found and dated back to be about 10000 years old. These seeds are believed to be used for medicinal reasons.
