The Peace Rose
By Amanda Horob

The Peace Rose also known as Beke, Fredsrosen, Gioia, Gloria Dei, Mme. A. Meilland, Mme Antoine Meilland is perhaps the most famous rose of all.The Duke of Windsor stated that, It is most certainly the most beautiful rose in the world. The Peace Rose blooms with 45 petals of pale yellow tinged with pink.

Francis Meilland, at the age of 23, developed the rose in 1935 but as a war began in Europe no one knew if the rose even survived. The rose in turn was offered under three separate names, Gloria Dei (Germany), Gioia (Italy), and Mme. A. Meilland, in memory of the hybridizers mother.

Conrad Pyle christened the rose Peace to commemorate the end of World War II.The rose was formally introduced the day Berlin fell on April 29, 1945.

This is the Peace rose, which was christened by the Pacific Rose Society exhibition in Pasadena on the day Berlin fell.We hope the Peace rose will influence mens thoughts for everlasting world Peace.
