Gerbera Daisies By: Nicole Thom Gerbera Daisies are bright and colorful. They are truly happy little plants. Gerbera Daisies grow best in sunny areas and in well drained, sandy soils. The number one rule when planting these beautiful plants it to keep the plants crown slightly above the soil line. This is because the plant is prone to crown rot and if the crown is too close to the soil the disease is more likely to occur. Water infrequently but deeply infact allow a slight wilt before waterings. Use fertilizers formulated for roses, because these contain minor elements. Consider growing older gerbera varieties, they are less prone to crown rot and have a better resistance to the disease than the newer varieties. Fungicide treatments don't seem to help the crown rot in the newer varieties. |
