Title: 2013, 2014, 2015.
Abstract: According to a great
mathematician Ramanujan, every positive integer
possesses a nice and unique property - Ramanujan
was saying that "every natural number is my friend". I have read this
in the year 1988 or 1989, and since then, I try to find a nice property
about every newly coming year. I intentionally do not think ahead of time,
thinking about the coming year only on the New Year Eve, to add more to
the enjoyment of embracing a new year and to become a real
friend with it.
On
the New Year Eve of 2013, struggling to find a nice property of it, I suddenly
realized that the numbers 2013, 2014 and 2015 all share a very interesting
property. This simple property is quite rare, in
fact there is only one n < 2013 where the triple (n, n+1, n+2) shares
that same property. In the talk, I will state what that property is.
We
will be also looking at some other related facts. I will end the talk with
discussing a striking (but well known) property of the number 30.
