Title: Cantor Construction: Three
Approaches to the Amazing Set
Abstract:
The Cantor set is a well-known set in mathematics with many useful and
unusual properties. We will examine the set, its properties, and its
construction. Many of us have seen the fractal-like recursive
construction of the set. We will also use two very different approaches
to construct the same set, and some of its variants. We will discuss the
value of the different approaches and explore new questions that arise from
different constructions. The talk will be accessible to all.
