A perfectly preserved fossil moss stem with leaves still attached - the specimen is about 2.5 cm (1 inch) long. The 14 million year old moss is identified as similar to a living species which today lives in warmer bog and lake habitats at least 2000 km (1250 miles) north of the fossil site.
