Here we are at the heart of the valley, the Red River.

The photos show how the river, over the last several thousand years, has cut a steep bank into the land. Climbing down the bank you can see the different sedimentary layers of the lake bed. These layers formed during different phases as the level of Lake Agassiz rose and fell. Among these layers can be found the existence of Mollusks, along with the occasional boot or tire.

These particular photos were taken at The Paupers Cemetery in Trollwood Park Fargo, ND. Back in the pioneering days, if a poor local, or stranger were to die, the city mortician would bury them here. Little did they know that approximately 100 years later the cut bank of the river would be disturbing the burial sites causing young innocent children to bring home skeletal remains to mom!
