Note: Noctua comes L.*, introduced into the Pacific northwest,  is similar to N. pronuba.  It is most easily differentiated in having a black discal lunule on the  hindwing.  The underwing moth, Catocal amica Grote, has hindwings somewhat similar to C. acadiensis, but has quadrifid hw venation.  Many Heliothinae, although smaller, are somewhat similar to C. acadiensis.  These species have the protibial setae more stout, and hindwings with pale marginal spot or discal lunule.
