Identification key to the Noctuinae occurring in the Dakotas

 

A1.  (1bba) Female with two widely separated abdominal foveae posterio-ventrad. 
    Ground color brown, double transverse lines black, filling of groundcolor.
    Spaelotis clandestina (Harris).

 

         

 

A1.' Female with two large nearly contiguous abdominal fovear posterio-ventrad.
    Ground color gray-brown, transverse lines black with some white filling. 
    Spaelotis bicava Lafontaine.
