Antheraea polyphemus (Cramer 1776)

Common name: Polyphemus moth.

Hodges #: 7757.

Identification: Rfw 62.3 mm, ocellatus on each wing round and with a central ‘window;’ abdomen brown, without segmental white bands.

Similar species: 7767, 7769.

Distribution: Southern Canada to Mexico, except Great Basin and southwest.

Hosts: Larvae feed on a wide variety of hardwood hosts, in North Dakota especially on Quercus macrocarpa Michx.– Bur oak.
