Sphinx kalmiae J. E. Smith 1797

Common name: Laurel sphinx.

Hodges #: 7809.

Identification: Rfw 43.9 mm, fws fawn brown, darkest along costa and tornus, hw outer margin pale before fringe.

Similar species: 7810, 7811.

Distribution: temperate U. S. and southern Canada east of the Great Plains, in the north occurs west to the Rockies..

Hosts: Larvae feed on Kalmia-- laurel, Syringa-- lilac, and Fraxinus-- ash.
