Paonias myops (J. E. Smith 1797)

Common name:  Small eyed sphinx.

Hodges #: 7825.

Identification: Rfw 23.8 mm,  outer margin irregularly dentate, hw costal margin concave, ocellatus a single blue spot in a black field, disc of hw yellow.  Head with median crest of scales.

Similar species: 7824.

Distribution: southern Canada and United States, southward into Mexico.

Hosts: Larvae feed on Prunus spp.-- cherry, plum, Amelanchier sp.-- service berry, and  Vitis sp. wild grape.
