Proserpinus juanita (Strecker 1877)

Common name: listed here as 'Willow-herb day-sphinx.'

Hodges #: 7875.

Identification: Rfw 17.3 mm, pattern in shades of olive green, ventral base of fw orange, of hw dark brown.  Pro-tibia with enlarged setae forming 'fossorial claws.'

Similar species: 7874-- not in ND.

Distribution: Great plains region of North America and westward in the south to Arizona.

Hosts: Larvae feed on Epilobium spp.-- willow-herb, and Oenothera spp.-- evening primrose.
 

ND  Morton Co., Hebron.  6- VI- 1931.         E. Krauth.
